Bridging the Gap...

Prayer Ideas

Bridging the Gap believes that prayer should be the first building block in ministry.  We encourage every women's ministry group to host a prayer event, like a prayer summit.  Just as each church and women's ministry is unique, each prayer event can take on the personality and purpose of that unique group.

The important elements of a Prayer Summit are Time & Prayer.  So when you are thinking about where to start with a prayer event, feel free to jump out of the box of 24 hours and a certain sequence of prayer topics.  Ask yourself - Who are we?  What do we need to pray about?  When do we have time?

Prayer Summits

Prayer Chains

Ideas to get you thinking: (from different church groups)

  1. Prayer Watch - Meet from 7pm - Midnight.  Let people come and go freely.  Keep a list of prayer topics on a power point or handout.  Have someone lead in prayer at the beginning of each hour or every 30 minutes to help keep the focus.
  2. Prayer Power Lunch - Meet for one week at noon to 1.  Each day pick a new topic to focus your prayer time on.
  3. Circle of Prayer - Meet one Saturday afternoon for 3 or 4 hours.  Ask several women to lead in a topic of prayer - the more women you ask to lead, the more who will be sure to come!
  4. Early Bird Prayer - For one week meet in the morning.  Pick a time each day that women (or anyone) can stop in before work.
  5. Men & Women's Prayer Summit - Try four hours of prayer on a Friday evening.  Start with worship together.  Separate into men & women for an hour, and then come back together.  Focus on relevant topics like marriage and family.
  6. Month of Prayer - Stretch yourself and schedule prayer every night for a month.  Have the church open each night for 1 hour and have at least one person sign up to be there for prayer.  Encourage as many people to come each night or one night per week.  See if you can collectively pray every day for one month.
  7. Call to Prayer - Have a day of fasting and prayer after church one Sunday.  Head to the fellowship hall, and spend a few hours in prayer and fasting for your church.
  8. Prayer Walk - Schedule a day to split up in teams, and canvas your community with prayer as you walk.  Meet back at the church for an hour of worship.
  9. Weekend Away - A prayer retreat at a camp (such as Lake Geneva Christian Center).  Give yourselves plenty of time to get away with God and seek Him.
  10. Prayer Pajama Party - Come in your PJ's and stay for prayer all night.  Break up the prayer times with fun getting to know each other.  Sleep is optional.
