A Refreshing Presence
Cher Lorentz
“There is a deep sadness I can’t seem to control. A passion that is unrequited. A longing that seems like an endless void, right now I cannot find hope enough to walk past. I have prayed until there aren’t any words. I feel as though my prayers are swirling around like dust in a windstorm. I believe God is bigger and stronger. I know I cannot trust my feelings to guide me, yet so much of my journey has been discovering oceans of emotions I have tried to suffocated somewhere inside of me. So I get confused. I believe He wants to give me His truth but I can’t seem to break through the iceberg that isolates the brokenness.”
Have you ever felt this way? Do you struggle with the committee inside of you? I did. I was 48 years old before the Lord used some great friends to help me discover God’s truth and peace. It was not that I didn’t know God, I believed in Him since I was seven. I just didn’t have the relationship with God that He fully intended me to enjoy and I didn’t know why. Nothing I could do would change that reality, but God was able.
God unraveled so many mysteries about my life and confusion as I learned to trust Him. He healed so many painful memories and sorrows through a prayer counseling method called Theophostics. He transformed my pain and the lies I believed about Him and myself. God returned my sadness to joy, step by step in His time helped me trust Him and others again.
I’ve never been more in love with Jesus and passionate about spending time with Him than I am today. He is the one true sovereign Lord. He is worthy. I rejoice to give Him my praise, my time, my tears, my trust, and my hope.
Is my life perfect? No, it is not. It is being transformed by Jesus. I am learning to walk in wholeness and freedom because of His gracious hand.
Psalm 103 says it like this,
1 Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
This wonderful relationship is totally by His grace and not an exclusive one. He longs to be with each of His precious children. He truly loves you and wants you to be with Him.
