AFRICA - DOUG & CORRINE LOWENBERG
Ruthie & Julia

The Lowenbergs have served in Ethiopia since August
1998. Doug is the director of our Assemblies of God Bible College
called Addis Ababa Bible College (ABC). In cooperation with Global
University, ABC is the only degree granting, Pentecostal Bible
College in the country. The College has about 120 students from
17 different denominations. The goal is to train pastors, evangelists
and missionaries for Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. ABC began
in the fall of 1994. Much work is being done to improve the curriculum
and strengthen the infrastructure of the College in order to
produce Spirit-empowered, servant leaders. The school is operating
at full capacity and looking to move into new facilities by the
fall of 2001.
Corrine serves as the Registrar and Director of Admissions.
Her warm personality and care for details is a great blessing
to the College and the students.
Doug and Corrine are working on acquiring the national language,
Amharic. Demands at ABC prevent them from studying full-time
but progress is being made.
Many weekends are spent in churches throughout the country conducting
evangelistic crusades or leadership conferences.
Ethiopia, with a population of 62 million, is experiencing a
God-given revival. Many people from nominal church backgrounds,
the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and Islam are finding Christ as
their personal savior. There is a great need to continue to reach
to the 40 unreached people groups in the country and plant churches
everywhere. Preparing leaders is critical to conserve the harvest
and see it multiplied.
Julia and Ruthie attend a local missionary-operated school called
Bingham Academy. For the fall of 2000, Julia will be in 8th grade
while Ruthie will enter 5th. Their teachers and friends come
from Ethiopia, Africa and the Western world. It is a great mix
for them to develop friendships with children from all over the
world, learn about many distinct people groups and gain a broad
range of history. Both girls are good students, play soccer and
take piano lessons.
The Lowenbergs are scheduled for furlough August 2001-2002 to
visit our A/G churches in the States and report what the Lord
is doing in Ethiopia.
