LATIN AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN FIELD

Ministry
Specialists in Latin America
The growth of the population in Latin America is one of today's
greatest spiritual challenges. It is estimated that 50
percent of the region's people are children and teenagers.
A burgeoning middle and upper class in Latin America is creating
new and potentially explosive tensions with the traditionally
poor masses of the underprivileged. Materialism and moral
decay linked with crime and poverty are creating a great spiritual
hunger in the Spanish speaking world.
Today, a fresh spiritual renewal is spreading throughout
many Latin American countries. It has resulted in many
new and dynamic churches, Bible Schools and training centers,
and hundreds of thousands of new born again believers. To
continue promoting such a spiritual awakening the Assemblies
of God has assigned a number of missionaries like the Shields
to full-time evangelism on a field covering several countries.
The ministry of Mike and Mona Shields has been rooted
in Latin America. Mike met his wife, MonaRé, while
they were on an Ambassadors in Mission (AIM) outreach to Managua,
Nicaragua. AIM is an Assemblies of God sponsored program
that gives young people an opportunity to work with missionaries
overseas on short-term trips. Since then Mike and MonaRé have
worked in many capacities as pastors, Senior Associates, and
as the Director of Youth and College Ministries (D-CAP) of the
Assemblies of God for the state of Minnesota for seven years.
Mike and MonaRé have traveled throughout Latin
America in evangelism outreaches, campaigns, conventions and
retreats. They have organized, promoted, led, and traveled
with over 2500 students in nearly 60 evangelism outreach events.
MonaRé is the daughter of Assemblies of God Missionaries
Dr. Monroe and Betty Jane Grams, 40 year veterans in ministries
of church planting and higher education to every country of Central
and South America. MonaRé was raised in La Paz,
Bolivia.
The Shields are graduates of North Central Bible College
in Minneapolis, Minnesota. MonaRé holds a Masters
Degree in Education from the University of St.Thomas in St. Paul,
Minnesota. She also earned a Masters level ESL from Hamline
University.
The Shields are fluent in Spanish and are based in Santiago,
Chile. They plan to continue their present international
ministry of outreach campaigns, youth ministries and interdenominational
events throughout Latin America.
