St. Louis, Missouri, began as a trading post set up by Pierre Laclede Liguest who was given a land grant by the king of France (King Louis IX) in 1764. Today it is a thriving city -the 18th largest in the United States. Its diversity is growing, along with the city and metro's population, which is now 2,801,033. Its climate is usually a little warmer than or equal to that of Minnesota in the summer. It has a rich history and hopes for a rich future.  For more information about St. Louis, follow these links: Lonely Planet, St. Louis Tourism, St. Louis City
